I can’t say for the evil part, but it’s not so much they see him as insane as they are suffering a sort of insanity themselves. Let me Marksplain.
It’s a worldview thing, dating back to the early hilarity of godamutherufkn Donald Trump expressing political aspirations and then rising to the upper echelons of Republican ism. His brand of shit fueled the growth of the Left’s tacit agreement toward utter absolute opposition to him 100% without thought or reason, period, ad nauseum infinitum.
And they loved hating him. The high point of this righteousness came when he became the candidate. You can’t imagine these days the Left’s ebullient elation at such a total self-immolation by the Right. What a gift! It was like Vietnam if we won times a thousand Best Picture Oscars.
You can only begin, then, to imagine how many closely held preconceptions shattered on election night when that whole president Trump thing happened. But no matter how poorly you imagine it you can probably imagine it better than they can, cos they went utterly blind. I think it was a rage-fueled denial, while some argue the chicken was undercooked, but no matter what the shock was more than profound. It was a fundamental sounding of every structure whereupon their understanding of reality was based.
Faced with their purest enemy who had bested them in their own arena, capitulation in any form was never going to be an option. Their only recourse was to dig in and start firing back relentlessly with everything they’ve got and everything else they could imagine, an endless barrage to batter him down…
…they expected a short war…
And so, whereas you could begin to imagine the shattering of closely held preconceptions described above, here in May 2018, with prisoners coming home and North Korea talking, jobs up and unemployment down, it is impossible for you to comprehend the atomic cognitive dissonance exacted upon the Left by the now considerable and laudable achievements of 45, the teflon Don, the Mango Mao (that’s mine), smirking from a rising pile of making America great again, flaws and incredible lies and all.
Their bets–their lives–have long been all-in on something, anything, coming through that takes 45 down. It’s a corner they got themselves to: a place where they’d have to boot-lick even to begin working with the guy, at least from their point of view of his point of view. And he well might, knowing his ego-to-skin ratio. And in turn they, rightly in many ways, do not want to see him succeed, not the least for the seeing of his ego reveling in it.
This is a difficult time for the world, a time of a great many great divides…but, assuming this current direction continues forward, and nothing currently threatening or anything yet to be provoked apocalypticaly awaits us, history may remember it as something memorable for the right reasons, like he was a difficult, kind of crappy leader who succeeded, and he destroyed American democracy by revealing a bankruptcy on the left, which ultimately saved it.
And that pisses the Left off.
